CAROLYN WALDEN
From the President:
Welcome to the North Louisiana Rabbit Breeders Association! I look forward to working with all of you. I believe the future of this hobby centers around introducing rabbits to new people and working with our youth.
Our organization plans on providing information for all breeds of rabbits. We are going to place a great deal of emphasis on education.
This club was formed to meet the needs of the growing number of rabbit breeders in North Louisiana. We welcome persons from abroad to join us. We already have members from across the state and from other states as well.
Our members are willing to help anyone wanting rabbits as pets, raising rabbits to show or interested in rabbits for meat. Several of our members have been raising rabbits for more than 20 years and have a wealth of information to share. In the last few years I have faced several life altering obstacles that have proven to me just how much the friendships we build in the rabbit world mean. I personally commit myself to all persons who join us as we begin a journey of making new friends and learning from one another as we further the rabbit hobby.
So come join our association and let our journey begin.
Nancy Walker
From the Vice President:
The days are getting shorter and the weather cooler. Hopefully that means that your rabbitries are beginning to fill up as your breeding programs get back into the swing of things after our hot summer.
I look forward to serving you as VP as we begin this new venture with the NLRBA. Feel free to share any ideas with us you for our club. With all of us pulling together we can promote and expand our wonderful hobby. Make sure to contact your local 4-H office and share our information with them.
My household raises Dutch, Himi, Dwarf Hotot, Florida White and Californians. If you need assistance with these breeds or need help locating a specific breed, feel free to contact me. We look forward to seeing you again at upcoming shows.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and may all your nest boxes be full.
Mike Ellerbe
From the Secretary:
NLRBA minutes: The NLRBA held a meeting via email beginning Nov 7, 2012. The floor entertained no old business. New business consisted of election of officers, potential show site location for Labor Day weekend and the new NLRBA website. There were no nominations made. Current officers were re-elected via majority vote. Current directors were re-appointed by majority vote. It was put on the table that there is no maximum number for directors. Anyone else wishing to be added as a director, please let the officers know. Officers and directors are in agreement for a show Labor Day weekend 2013. To date a building has NOT been secured for this show. If you have suggestions for location of this potential show, please let me know.
The NLRBA website address is: www.nlrba.weebly.com - check it out - please send me your web address/email and the breeds you raise so we can link our members to this site. It is getting quite a few hits. A members’ roster was included in the email meeting.
A fundraising idea is being implemented by the Bearden's for a rabbit cookbook to include other recipes as well. Please send your recipes to Mary Beth at [email protected]. Please submit other fundraising ideas for our club. There was not further business so meeting was closed.
Also From the Secretary/Treasurer:
I am so excited to be involved with the NLRBA! The club was started to meet the needs of the growing number of North Louisiana Rabbit Breeders. I would like to thank all officers, directors and support persons (Karen Guillory - newsletter editor, Brelyn Savage -webmaster, members) for their time and dedication to this club. We look forward to serving our communities to advance our love for rabbits, make new friends and watching our fun, family hobby grow.
Our membership is 27 strong and includes members from across the State and out of state members as well. We appreciate the continued educational support and provision of good rabbits to build our herds from our local and State rabbit fanciers and from those abroad as well. We are planning our first rabbit show with location and other details to follow as they are confirmed. We hope you join our membership and add to our fun and growth.

A rabbit came into a shop and asked, "Got any carrots?"
The seller answered, "No."
The next day the rabbit came again and asked, "Got any carrots?"
The seller replied "No."
Next day the rabbit came and asked, "Got any carrots?"
The seller shouted, "No! And if you come again and ask for carrots, I'll take nails and hammer you on the wall by your ears!"
Early next morning the rabbit came back and asked, "Got any nails?"
The seller answered, "No."
The rabbit asked, "Got any carrots?"
Destiny Bearden entered a picture in the 2012 ARBA convention junior division single color photo contest and received a blue ribbon for it. The pictures were to promote the rabbit industry. Since we do not eat rabbit, they got a live version of "Rabbit Stew". There are many contests that our youth can enter WITHOUT being present at convention - to learn more about those contests go to the ARBA site and look under “youth contests”.
